This October the AIDS Action Council of the ACT is the proud host of Canberra Fair Day at Gorman Arts Centre on October 28 from 11am to 4pm
Be sure to head on down for a fun filled day of markets, fabulous food and entertainment celebrating the diversity of Canberra’s LGBTIQ communities.
Fair Day has been held annually since the first SpringOUT Pride Festival in 1999. Canberra’s LGBTIQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer) communities reinforce their key values of joy, dignity and identity through events of celebration throughout the festival.
In addition to showcasing the amazing array of community organisations and groups that exist within the ACT, Fair Day is where important community research will take place — including the Canberra Gay Community Periodic Survey — an invaluable snapshot that helps to create change and inform policy and program development for Canberra’s communities.
Regardless of which city you find yourself in, events like these are symbolic of how our communities come together, to be visible and demonstrate inclusion and diversity. Events like Fair Day have been an essential part of LGBTIQ culture for decades and will continue to be in the future.
These events are important for cross-community support. Given the current marriage equality debate, the 2017 event takes on extra significance. Admission is free, but for more information about Fair Day, check out the Facebook event on the AIDS Action Council of the ACT’s Facebook page.
