September in Brisbane marks Brisbane Pride. Bringing together the spirit of inclusion and celebration of ‘who we are’ – Brisbane pride is expected to attract over 10,000 festival goers across the month.
The highlights being the launch on the 9th, and the rally and march on the 23rd culminating in Fair Day. This year Brisbane Pride continues its proud 27 year history of celebrating everything LGBTIQA+ in 2017.
New Farm Park will be transformed for Fair Day on the 23rd of September. Featuring live entertainment, DJ’s, the traditional pet parade, and of course Drag Queens, the event will kick off at 10:30am across two stages.
Regardless of which city you find yourself in, events like these are symbolic of how our communities come together to thrive with the spirit of inclusion and diversity. They have been an essential part of LGBTI culture for decades and will continue to be in the future.
These are the events that have been the melting pot for supporting each other; be that in response to the HIV epidemic, the fight for legally recognised de facto relationships in Queensland, or when homosexuality was finally decriminalised in the state.
2017 will be no different with a focus on the drive towards greater acceptance and integration with our ‘mainstream’ friends and family.
